Rpdly ("we", "our", "the extension", "the website") is a free speed reading tool available as a web app at rpdly.com and as a Chrome browser extension. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect (almost none) and how we handle it.
We do not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data.
Specifically:
- We do not collect your name, email, or any identifying information.
- We do not track which pages you visit.
- We do not read or store the text you speed-read.
- We do not use cookies for tracking.
- We do not use analytics or third-party tracking scripts.
- We do not transmit any data to our servers or any third party.
The extension and website store the following preferences locally on your device using your browser's built-in storage (chrome.storage.local and localStorage):
- Your preferred reading speed (words per minute)
- Your preferred theme (light, sepia, or dark)
- Whether you have dismissed the onboarding guide
This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us or anyone else.
When you click "Extract Page" or highlight text, the extension reads the text content of the current webpage to display it in the speed reader. This text is processed entirely within your browser and is never sent anywhere. It is discarded when you close the popup or navigate away.
The Chrome extension requests the following permissions, all of which are required for core functionality:
- activeTab: To read text from the page you are currently viewing when you click the extension icon.
- scripting: To inject the text extraction script into the current tab.
- contextMenus: To add "Speed-read" options to the right-click menu.
- storage: To save your preferences (speed, theme) locally.
We do not share any data with third parties. The website may display ads in the future; if so, the ad provider's own privacy policy will apply to their cookies and tracking, and this policy will be updated accordingly.
Rpdly does not knowingly collect any data from children or anyone else.
If we update this policy, the changes will be posted on this page with an updated date.
